[Mr. Lüthy] had in his house, in addition to a grand piano, one of those better-class American organs on which for his entertainment I would treat him to choral-sounding and mock fugal improvisations.  On the piano, when my small stock of Bach pieces was exhausted, I would improvise à la Bach or Handel and humbug him into believing that he was listening to the genuine article.  After all, I argued, what does it matter if I do hoax him a bit, nobody is harmed by it?  The only thing that in consequence I was not quite easy about was the fact that he credited me with possessing a huge repertoire and a phenomenal memory!
