Thomas Britton (1644 – 1714) was a coal merchant who also was a book and music collector, a maker of mobile science laboratories, a fine singer and a concert promoter. He converted the loft of his Clerkenwell home into a small concert venue that hosted highly regarded and popular weekly performances.
