After this came the Liszt concerto. Shklyarevskaya* was very nervous and went badly to pieces. To perform a difficult work with an unrhythmical soloist is not a situation calculated to make anyone feel secure. We were escorted on to the stage as if going into battle: 'It'll be fine, God willing, it will go well...' 'Whatever happens, the most important thing is not to get lost...' and so on.

As soon as I found myself on the podium, I found it quite funny. There were in the end no disasters in the concerto performance; Tcherepnin found three places to criticize, but these were not serious and from my point of views almost all unavoidable. Glazunov was full of praise. The concert ended with the Overture to The Flying Dutchman, conducted by Tsybin.
