As a child I had only heard music of Handel, Bach, Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, and shall never forget the thrill I got when I first heard someone play the posthumous waltz of Chopin, which seemed as if an entirely new world had opened to me. My attempts to play it by ear must have been curious to listeners, but still I managed to do it.
