I used to be taken to the Ernest Read Childrens' Concerts on Saturday mornings and remember seeing Ralph Vaughan Williams acknowledge applause after a work of his was played. I also remember being fascinated by that huge organ which appeared to dominate the orchestra. I often thought it was pouring with rain outside but later realised that the sound I heard was the paper programmes being waved around by all of the children. |
