In the evening I attended the premiere of Stravinsky's new ballet Pulcinella, based on music by Pergolesi that Diaghilev had dug up from somewhere or other. It is very interesting, although Stravinsky has sometimes rather overdone the antique style. The keening after Pierrot's murder is wonderful. |
