My first port of call was Nouvel, who said that naturally Diaghilev was most unhappy about the Koussevitzky performance of the Scythian Suite, but agreed that it was now too late to do anything about it. I next went to see Koussevitzky, who roared that the question was not worth discussing, the Suite was the pièce de résistance of the whole concert, and as far as Diaghilev was concerned I should simply put all the blame on him, Koussevitzky. I was only too pleased by all of this and instead of protesting went through the whole Suite with with Koussevitzky before leaving at six o'clock for Monte Carlo. |
