In the evening a fête champêtre at Salmons’ near Devizes; a beautiful place, and everything gay and riant; a boat on the little lake, musicians playing on the island in the middle of it, tents pitched for it, &c. &c. Bessy did not go, which I was very sorry for. Walked about with Mrs. P., and danced afterwards till three o'clock.
