In June the de Reszkes returned, with Melba and Lassalle, and on the fifteenth a French performance of “Romeo et Juliette" shed lustre for the first time upon the annals of a London opera-house. The full cast was as follows: Romeo, M. Jean de Reszke; Frere Laurent, M. Edouard de Reszke; Tybalt, M. Montariol; Mercutio, M. Winogradow; Capulet, M. Seguin; Due, M. Castelmary ; Stefano,  Mile. Jane de Vigne; Gertrude, Mme. Lablache; and Juliette, Mme. Melba ; Signor Mancinelli, conductor. The chorus sang in French, and the  mounting of the opera was almost entirely new. “Romeo” attracted crowded audiences throughout the season.
