Into new York at nine in the morning and straight to a rehearsal with Altschuler. It felt strange to be rehearsing the 'Classical' Symphony after the Scythian Suite: quite different gestures are needed, and different demands on the orchestra. Altschuler has already played it somewhere in the provinces on one of his tours, and therefore the orchestra played it quite fluently, only here and there with dubious intonation. There was another rehearsal in the afternoon. |
