It was at another meeting of the university jazz club that an alien sound crept into our consciousness, crapped and crept out again. One of the members was giving a lecture on some suitably abstruse aspect of our chosen music, illustrated with records; but he started by playing Bill Haley's 'Rock Around the Clock'. We all laughed.
