Three of Myaskovsky's songs were also performed. Although they are probably his best examples, they met with little success. He was not present himself as he has fallen ill with influenza, or perhaps he was simply too nervous. I like very much his song 'Blood', but it failed to please the audience. One or other of the 'Contemporaries', it may have been Karatygin*, delivered himself of the provocative opinion that Myaskovsky's music has already dated. I interpret this as meaning that until recently the newest trends in music were those Myaskovsky was following, but they have already moved on whereas Myaskovsky continues to write in the same style and it therefore appears dated. This analysis may well be correct.
