Diary entry summary 1731

I staid at Westburn till within 2 or 3 days of the times being out; paid my shair for it, then return’d to Golden Square. I think it was the Bigining of November. Spent my time as usual. I don’t remember perticulars, but ‘twas dull enough...Mrs.Denlys, Lady Castlemaine and Mrs.Drydens were the only acquentance I vissitted with pleasure. I went to one Opera, Boxes, and 3 Gallery, where I was almost always wonderous happy. Strainge! Was it possible to find any room for Vainity with so many mortifications, and such Cow’d broaken Spirits? Yes I did. Lord William Manners, and much much higher. ‘Twas all Vainity indeed; but sure it was an innocent, harmless, undesigning Vainity.
