"Having heard of his fame I took the opportunity of attending the service at St. George's Chapel on the afternoon of September l0th, I847. I am never likely to forget the impression made by Dr. Elvey in his accompaniment of the 78th Psalm. The organ upon which he then played was a considerably smaller affair than the experts amongst organists of the present day will put up with. Nevertheless, the effects produced in that truly dramatic Psalm I have never heard equalled, nor do I think I am now likely again to hear it.
