As a student at Goldsmiths, we in the Music Dept. were allowed to attend orchestral rehearsals at the almost completed R.F.H. Two in particular - John Barbirolli rehearsing the Hallé - finally stopping in exasperation when yet another handbag crashed to the floor - a comment on the number of women in the orchestra! And Sir Thomas Beecham - reputed to dislike the venue - during a rehearsal plagued by unwanted percussion behind the scenes throwing down his baton and refusing to continue until the culprit was found. The appearence of Vaughan Williams during the 'Symphony Antartica' rehearsal.
