The concert was at half-past eight, and the programme was the same as for Oakland. I played well and with great enjoyment, except for the Op. 12 'Scherzo', which I never seem to be able to bring off technically (to the standard I set myself) and the Rimsky-Korsakov Novelettes, pieces for which I have always found it hard to develop a satisfactory interpretation in performance. This time there was a large audience and a very enthusiastic reception, which is why I played so well. If I do the same in San Francisco on Sunday, that will be just the ticket.
