The general rehearsal for Saturday's concert was on Thursday morning; since tickets for the concert were by invitation only and since my mother badly wanted to hear Yesipova, I promised to take her in to the general rehearsal. That morning Mama and I got into a cab and set off. As we were passing Nikolsky Park I spied in front of us a cab with Katya Borshch (whom I was very glad to see) and Nadia Popova in it. We all arrived at the same time at the entrance to the Conservatoire; I bowed to the girls, and they disappeared into the entrance. Mama and I made our way to the Great Hall, where Glazunov was in the middle of conducting Rubinstein's Symphony. Yesipova played marvellously, and when she had finished and come out into the foyer, her whole class made a bee-line for her. |
