The first item on the programme was the Magic Flute overture conducted by Dranishnikov. The concert started slightly late, so that by the time I went out on stage the hall was all but full. Just before going out I had a twinge of apprehension, quite a pleasant feeling, something like the start of a journey. The orchestra played the symphony quite decently for 'junior course' students, but pretty unsatisfactorily for anyone with any sort of discrimination. For my own part, as far as I could judge there were no mistakes (except for one time when I ommitted to call a forte). |
