In the score of his own opera he has removed many of the progressions in thirds and whole tones, and this has greatly sharpened up the piece. I am still not sure whether this is real music or Kapellmeister music. Much of it I truly like, but a score on fifty staves does have a sonewhat overwhelming effect. Coates calls me his professor and acts on the slightest hint I let drop. |
