Letter from James Collier to his mother Mary Collier, 7 May 1742 Three Italians, after a stay at this place of ten days, set out on Tuesday morning for London with an intention of offering themselves at the opera house where in all probability they will meet with great encouragement. Signor Piantinida is esteemed by the judges to play exceedingly well on the violin and the women Signora Posterla and Signora Chiari Posterla to have agreable voices joined to great judgement, but particularly the former is looked upon to sing not in the least inferior to Signora Visconti. They had here three crowded concerts of vocal and instrumental musick. |
