My chorus* was performed at the 18 January concert. This was rather short notice, necessitating a compressed rehearsal schedule, but there was no possibility of delaying it, because the next student concert was not until the 12 February, at which time I would be away in Moscow, and the one after it would not be until March. When the orchestra played through its part at rehearsal it sounded wonderful, and I was quite satisfied with my orchestration. But when the orchestra was combined with the choir the result was such an utter mess that it was impossible to hear anything; neither group was used to the other so that both made mistakes both separately and together.
