Tonight Maurice Abravanel conducted my Third Symphony with the Utah Orchestra in Carnegie Hall where, more than twelve years ago, its premiere was given by Bernstein. I wore a dark blue suit (bought in Paris in 1953), an old sky-blue shirt with royal-blue tie. The piece hasn't weathered the years as well as the clothes.
