I was a frequent visitor at that time to the [London Pavilion Music-hall], where I on more than one occasion witnessed Redmond’s performance, or as much of it as was done under the eyes of the spectators. His arms were securely bound with a cord, and he then sat down in a cabinet placed on the platform, and was bound to the seat. The door was then closed, and in less than three minutes an accordion was played and a tambourine banged in the cabinet. In a few seconds more the performer’s hand, holding the tambourine, was shown from a square aperture in the side of the cabinet, and in another moment the door was opened and Redmond stepped out, free! |
