She [Madame Mara] next revived an opera of Sacchini, called Perseo, which had been produced in the time of Millico and Miss Davies, whose style of singing was much the same. In this too the first man’s part was performed by Babbini, of whom, notwithstanding the favourable report I had heard of him, I cannot say much in praise. He might be a good singer, as far as knowledge of music could make him one, but he was unequal to producing much effect, from the weakness of his voice, which it seemed a painful effort to him to exert.
