We spent some appaling days working with Jean [Cocteau]. Everything was done in ten days and this caused a lot of trouble. Fortunately the Coliseum is a vast music-hall with marvellous stage-hands. The fan was set up for the first time on Monday at a quarter past twelve; we had never rehearsed with it before and yet everything went smoothly.
