I was born on August 25th, 1863. This was in the days of the Cotton Famine. Of course, I knew nothing about it, but I have heard my father and mother and aunts talk of the men and others who came over the hills from Lancashire, singing and begging for clothes and food for their folks in the cotton districts. |
