A new film, entitled Rimsky-Korsakov, has been released. The honourable task facing the makers of this film was to show the life and work of the great Russian composer, and it is to their credit that they managed to incorporate a large quantity of his music in the film. The soundtrack includes excerpts from Sadko, The Snow Maiden, The Tale of the Tsar Soltan, Kitezh, Kashchei the Immortal, The Golden Cockerel and Sheherazade- all superbly performed by the orchestra of the Kirov Theatre, conducted by the talented Boris Khaikin, and the singers taking part in the picture. The effect of Rimsky-Korsakov’s music is so powerful that it occasionally covers up the failings of the film…
