Listen to bit of B.B.C. concert under Walter (on very good newly hired wireless). Schubert 7th Symphony* was spoilt by exaggeration, & lack of taste. Don Quixote** (with Feuerman as a first-rate soloist) was very good indeed, but not inspired - the wind variation wasn't successful, tho' the end was extremely beautiful. What lovely music most of this is - the introduction & end esp. |
