One of the two yearly fairs at Cassel began this day. I was anxious to see it. When we had got as far as Madame Butlar’s, I felt so ill as to be obliged to return home. Every symptom of a high fever showed itself, and was increased in the course of the day by the noise in the streets incidental to the fair, parties of music playing eternally either before the door or in the house. |
