At half past eleven, for a change of scene*, I went in to the rehearsal of Glazunov's Violin Concerto: half the Conservatoire crams into these rehearsals. Glazunov's concerto doesn't give the soloist much of a chance for display; my own will be a more brilliant affair. The first theme is delicious, but it has been lifted straight from Korsakov's The Tsar's Bride. Young Heifetz is an exceptional violinist. |
