At our rehearsal, after lunch, I was bewitched at how well they knew 'the program'. When the King's Singers originally commissioned the piece, my quick and obvious impulse was to wave them a wreath of flawless posies. A month later (quite unaware of my impulse) they made it clear that they did not want yet another wreath of flawless posies; rather, they hoped for an extended through-written drama... My sole criticism of their impeccable diction, as they ran through Pilgrim Strangers this afternoon, was that they must be careful, at least in American performances, not to roll the 'R' in the word Brooklyn. |
