Recently I have been voraciously stuffing myself with Wagner: two subscriptions to The Ring, and on top of that more of his music in the concerts by Sheremetyev and Nikisch, this year being the twenty-fifth anniversary of the composer's death. I've heard eleven Wagner performances in the last few days, and there are three more to come. After him I find I don't want to hear any other music, and I don't even have any inclination to composer - he seems to have percolated right through my fingers and into my pen. Because of him my C minor Sonata (No. 5) has ground to a halt.
