I was woken at seven thirty, and by nine was already at the rehearsal for the Concerto. This time the piano had pedals, but it was still not a concert grand and its action was unbearably stiff. Stock was serious and attentive, and his tempi were moderate, which suited me very well as it was easier to play the notes. We worked until almost one o'clock. I tried not to listen to the orchestra (and found it interesting to concentrate solely on the piano part). Generally speaking, things were beginning to come together and there are only a few passages, perhaps five, that continue to defeat me. After two rehearsals it is going, if one cannot exactly say well, then at least respectably. All the same, I do not yet have an overall view of the Concerto because I am still too preoccupied with the technical hurdles of performing it. |
