I played the Sonata* no worse than I played it at home, and to my great surprise I was not at all nervous. Yesipova followed my performance with the score. 'Very interesting music,' she said, 'but I should like to hear it played by someone other than yourself. It's all very well to have accents, but you mustn't play fortissimo all the time. And you constantly overpedal. Leave the score with me and I will put in the pedal markings.' |
