At that evening's concert the reception of Dreams was lukewarm, but the Concerto - which I played very well - was a huge success. I believe it was the first occasion on which there was no booing. I played three encores, Boris Nikolayevich [Bashkirov] applauding frenziedly. I wondered whether Boris Zakharov would come over from Terioki, but he did not. Stravinsky's Symphony was quite beautiful, and when I got back home I found a postcard from the composer, which pleased me very much. |
