There was music; the performers, one of the daughters of the house, Madame d’Appony, and a Madame Marconi, the most extraordinary contralto voice I ever heard. She sang formerly at the theatre, is German by birth, and is now married to a German painter settled at Rome, and only sings for her friends. |
