When the harvest was gathered in the farmer gave a Harvest Supper to his employees and their wives and their older children […] After supper and a short speech […] fun and games were the order for the rest of the evening. There was old time dancing for the majority, such as the polka, barn dance, two steps, quadrills [sic], lancers and waltzes, interspersed with games for the younger ones. It all came to a head at 9.30pm when we all joined hands and sang “Auld Lang Syne”.
