The general rehearsal. Tilya Hansen sent a message that her cheeks had swollen up and she would not be coming to the rehearsal. This will not matter; I am quite relaxed about this piece and it will leave more time for the symphony. I therefore applied myself with every ounce of energy at my command to this work. We stopped, repeated passages and worked away at it until noon; it was not like a general rehearsal, but the symphony refused to catch fire and blaze into life, although the third and fourth movements were all right. All went well also with Shklyarevskaya*, but Tsybin's pieces went better. The adience was quite numerous, as is usual for a general rehearsal. |
