[Letter from Jemima Yorke to Catherine Talbot, November 1743] I went one Morning with her [Lady Carpenter] to Whitehall Chapel to hear a new Te Deum & Anthem of Handel’s against the King’s Return, but she bewitches all Musick she goes to & this was almost like the Motetti’s, vastly loud & I thought not agreable. But this Musical Information is for my Aunt, you know nothing about it. Tell her too that the Operas begin next Tuesday & that I believe I shall go, even though she is not with me: for if I did not like the Entertainment, being something to do would I fancy carry me, for never was Creature more Desoeuvree. |
