[Letter from Jemima Yorke to Catherine Talbot, 30th November 1742]

have raked so much since I writt last, that I really believe I shall begin to be charmed with a Town Life. It was only the Rust of the Country that hung upon me, but I am wearing it off as fast as I can. On Saturday after many Doubts & Irresolutions I at last went to the Opera with L.dy Middleton & the Lady Capells. I was pleased with One or two things, but could not look upon you in ,Dir'ti‘ & was cold & tir'd before it was over: the House was very thin though they say it was the best they had had, & long Dances after every Act made it very tedious: but this served to break the Ice, & made all Other Undertakings of this Sort very easy to me.
