Chout was given three more times, the orchestra playing worse and worse on each occasion, and in the final performance I heard someone deliberately accompanying the Merchant's theme in thirds. At the end of the performance I confronted the orchestra manager in a fury. He made enquiries among the musicians but they were adamant that no one had done this, and the orchestra manager declared himself satisfied that he was not being lied to. But none of this caused me to alter my opinion.
