A major event has occurred in Linette's life: until now she has been studying singing with Litvinne, and enchanting woman but not a strict enough teacher. Linette is now moving to another teacher, Calvé*, one of the most famous French singers. While we were in the country in April Linette had sung a good deal, I had also been working with her, and during this period her voice had seen remarkable growth. Calvé wants her to go to study with her in her château, and the result is that I shall have to part with Linette for three or four weeks in June. |
