from Memoir of William Hickey, 1769, page 72:
[E]ach of the ships had an excellent band, consisting of every description of wind and martial instruments, the whole striking up the moment the sun appeared above the horison and continuing to play for an hour. The same thing was done in the evening previous to sunset, I never heard anything that pleased me more.
