from Diary of Benjamin Britten, Dec 28 1930, page 59:
Walk in morning, 10-11.30 with Pop, Beth & Caesar. Mr. Voke & Mrs. come in to tea at 4.0. Mummy, & Mr. Voke & I go in to Coleman's at 4.15 to try over the solo quartet parts etc. for the Musical Society concert. Mum. Mrs. Coleman (sop). Mary Cannel (cont). Mr. Catchpole (Ten). Mr. V. (bass). They sing quite well. Come back for tea. After which Mr V. sings my Vigil most beautifully. I like it now. Work all before Supper, read Lyndesey aft. & evening; I like it immensely in parts.
