[…] Oistrakh obeyed his government’s dictates dutifully and worked hard to get prizes for the Soviet contestants.
The first prize went to Nelli Shkolnikova, who played somewhat more accurately – that is, hit fewer wrong notes – than the other participants. And there was a talented Japanese girl who didn’t get anything at all.
