Gregor Piatigorsky in New York
from Cellist- Gregor Piatigorsky, page 202:
One of the few remaining concerts was at the Schola Cantorum, a series held in large private homes in New York. Everything went wrong at this concert – the acoustics, a too long program, my own playing, the dainty applause in gloves and our rushing on-stage to give an encore. Too late: the room was empty! “It is formidable,” Pavlovsky said admiringly, “how fast elderly ladies can run.”
