Charles Halle in Manchester - January, 1856

from Life and letters of Sir Charles Hallé; being an autobiography (1819-1860) , page 364:

In the evening choral and orchestral rehearsal of 'Elijah'. Of the solo singers only Miss Birch put in an appearance. The chorus did better, and the orchestra was really good, and so the performance promises to be satisfactory.
