Alexander Mackenzie in Casentino - the 1880's

from A Musician's Narrative , pages 129-130:

It may be that I was unfortunate in my search, nor do I presume to speak of later days, but it was at that altitude that I heard the only worthy attempt at an adequate selection, or a reverent performance, of Church music. When I met the young organist, Padre Damiano, in his carpeted cell, containing a piano and other unusual comforts, he was dying of consumption, and this pupil of Rheinberger at Munich did not live for many months longer.
