Benjamin Britten in London - 7 March, 1932
from Journeying boy : the diaries of the young Benjamin Britten 1928-1938, page 101:
Listen to Leners (on wireless) playing Schubert D min. quart.* which irritated every feeling of taste I've got. Sentimentalized, exaggerated, violated in every way - playing suited for a provincial Lyons. Debussy G min - followed was also bad - with shocking intonation. So much for them!
