Beth Britten et al. in London - 4 December, 1934
from Journeying boy : the diaries of the young Benjamin Britten 1928-1938, page 237:
Hear a bit of that, & then go to concert of Contemporary music society. Sylvia Spencer & the Grillers play my oboe quartet very beautifully; not perfectly, but with imagination, and spirit. It goes down well, after that they play the Prokofiev Quartet brilliantly - it is a wonderful piece of writing, but not a very satisfactory shape.* Mum, Beth, & Kit Welford, & Mrs Bridge are there among others.
